The tale of the turquoise cart

Remember that beverage cart that I wanted to make? Well...I recently succeeded in that DIY mission. Here is the story: There was recently a community stoop sale {it's like a yard sale but on people's stoops} in our neighborhood and someone was selling an Ikea wooden beverage cart that I had been looking at, for only $15! However, I had already made plans to go meet a friend in the Burg to checkout Strangeways. So I planned to get caffeinated and come back to get the cart. In the back of my mind I kept thinking that it wasn't what I wanted because it wasn't like the metal ones that I posted here, but I was just excited to have a new project. When I returned back to my hood the cart was sold and I was disappointed but I had a feeling that we would find something better soon. That night when I was walking Jack I thought that I should cross the street and check the things on the sidewalk because it was recycle day and there are often things left out that people don't want to carry. TADA!! Right across the street was this little beauty:

Rough right? It seemed like someone had used it for outside plants or something because it was rusty and very dirty on the bottom but we had a vision and I knew we could make it cute. Naturally we decided to get started right away...okay that might have been my idea{sorry for the bad lighting on the first pics} I was just so excited I had to start that night! We tried to give it a turquoise color using the paint we already had in the house, but it ended up being way brighter than what we wanted and was still wet hours later.

 

The next day it was still wet so we walked over to Lowes to find a quick drying spray paint{i have no idea why we didn't do that in the first place} and we found this pretty light turquoise color that suited our kitchen much better.  

 

 

If ever in doubt.. just buy the spray paint. It was SO fast and easy and dried within about an hour. Here is our almost finished product. We painted the wheels gold and added a handle. I'm excited to add a few other touches, like a tea towel soon! 

 

The Burg

Happy Thursday! Today feels like Friday. The weather was lovely and I spent it wandering around with a good friend in Williamsburg eating veggie sandwiches {with coffee, of course} at the cutest little hidden gem called House of Small Wonder and then we hit up Space Ninety Eight. Which is some brilliant person's plan of an Urban Outfitters mash up in a warehouse style venue. It is completely catered to the local Williamsburg lover and the hipster in all of us. It features local Brooklyn designers on the first floor, an Adidas floor on the bottom, a very cleverly displayed product area where you can try out things like sea salt hair spray and lightly tinted animal safe lip balm, and also a rooftop restaurant. Needless to say it is becoming one of my favorite places to hang out at when we are in the Burg.

Nook

One of the goals I made for myself this year was to make a usable & creative work space. Since I started working for myself full time last Fall I realized I needed a space at home to get things done that isn't the kitchen table. My space needs to be a place I feel inspired to be in for a long period of time because I work from home unless I am with clients or viewing a new collection. The main practical goals for my space were that it needs to be organized and cute! When my space isn't that way I find myself sneaking off to a coffee shop or visiting Michael at work, which is lovely but not very productive. Last year we found the perfect cabinet {I like to call it my nook} on the street in our neighborhood. It's been storing all of my crafty things for a year and I finally decided to turn it into a functional space as well. Cue my Pinterest for ideas, I have a whole board! Here are are a few of my favorite ideas. I look forward to sharing my complete project soon! 

So Saturday

Our awesome friends from the cafe that Michael works at just started a label called So Saturday. It's an urban casual brand full of quirky prints & tees and carries the attitude and atmosphere that Urban Outfitters tries to create (but way cooler). We LOVE it {and them} so much! They also hand make them in NYC and get their sweet friends to model for them, what's not to love? Their newest collection, shot on location: Spring '86 {my favorite year} makes me want to go to the beach with my boom box, best friends, & favorite high wasted pants. What does the fox say?

Wow. What a crazy fall it has been. The weather in NYC can't decide if it wants to be winter or fall. I really don't mind the extended 60 degree days. I'll take as many sweater days as I can get!
